Adding Industry Advocacy to Your New Year’s Resolutions

December 19, 2019
Meetings Mean Business

As we close 2019 and open the door to a new year, and decade, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with the wealth of possibilities and opportunities ahead. Spending more time with loved ones, outdoors and away from the computer screen are among the most popular promises we make to ourselves. Meeting and event professionals should also commit to strengthening their industry advocacy activities in 2020. Sharing your story about the importance of face-to-face events is critical for the security of our industry and made easier by our online toolkit of resources. Follow our tips below to get a head start on your new year’s resolution.

In 2020, please resolve to:

  1. Share your perspective on social media.
    1. Reflect on the last year by tweeting “In 2019, I saw #F2F events make an impact by ______.” Be sure to include hashtag #WorthMeetingAbout.
  2. Meet with your local elected officials, chamber of commerce and business leaders.
    1. Get together with the decisionmakers in your region and share why meetings matter. As an industry professional, your voice is critical in protecting the value that face-to-face events bring to global communities and the economy.
  3. Attend an event on behalf of MMBC.
    1. It’s easy to share the coalition’s mission and values at speeches, conferences or expos. If you’re planning to attend a major event, please reach out to the MMB team for information about incorporating industry advocacy into your visit.

If you have questions about advocacy or are interested in getting involved with MMB in 2020, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
