ADMEI's Evolution of the DMC: Renewing Business Relationships with Deeper Trust, Transparency and Understanding

During the Pandemic and over a very difficult time in our industry, ADMEI spent time addressing the issues the DMC world encountered as a consequence of the global situation. Through various Owner Roundtables and DMC industry surveys, ADMEI identified a need to communicate the value DMCs bring to an event and reaffirm how essential it is to have a strong and well-respected business relationship with our customers.

A focus group/task force was formed, with the target of reviewing the common threads in the research and of providing not only a vision for the future, but also to provide practical tools and guidance to help DMCs evolve in the new business environment. The review results showed DMCs are still too often judged for how much they charge, and not for what they are, what they do, or what they have done; and a want for a more balanced relationship with their customers is preferred. More importantly, the Task Force identified the need to encourage DMCs to learn how to communicate better what their value proposition is and how customers can get the best out of their DMC partners.

After conducting an ADMEI member webinar titled Essential Services of the DMC and live Q&A, and roundtable discussion, the final work product of ADMEI’s Task Force is the publication of a new white paper titled Evolution of the DMC – Renewing Business Relationships with Deeper Trust, Transparency and Understanding which can be found on the ADMEI website using the link below.

As the current President of ADMEI, I am proud to deliver this document not only to the global DMC community but to the MICE industry at large with support and recognition from other leading MICE associations that see the value DMCs bring to the wider travel and events community.

The evolution of the DMC industry requires that it embark upon a renewed relationship with clients that is built upon transparency, trust, and understanding. A unified approach will prove to be a mutually beneficial relationship between Destination Management Companies and clients as the MICE industry continues to evolve and adapt to new circumstances.
